TB that affects the brain is called Central Nervous System Tuberculosis (CNS-TB)

This is one of the major forms of TB, often leading to severe complication or death

One of the biggest challenges in treating CNS-TB is that the drugs used to treat TB are orally induced and it struggles to reach the brain because of a protective barrier called Blood - Brain Barrier (BBB)

Scientists at Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali, an autonomous institute of Department of Science and Technology (DST) used tiny particles made of natural material called CHITOSAN (biodegradable and biocompatible), to deliver the medicine directly to the brain through nose bypassing the BBB.
