Little advise : In ethics, focus on structure and presentation of the answer than the content
How to start?
Theory Part
• Start with PYQs of 2017-22, just have a glance on all the theory questions. You will find they are very basic on the surface, but you may not have the content fill 2 pages. Next step
• Take the syllabus and make short definition (4-5 lines) of each word mentioned. E.g. Explain Honesty, Define Morality. All this must be written in own language. You can take help from Google, ChatGPT etc.
• Try to write examples related to each word. E.g. Persevarace (APJ Abdul Kalam)
• Look at topper answer copies, and try to write own answers
Case studies
• Look at toppers copies to know the structure and presentation. They are the Bible in case studies
• Solve as many case studies as much possible. This one area is most scoring in entire GS mains exam, if you work hard enough
How to write case studies
• Read quickly and mark all the important words
• Make a structure in the mind in next 20-30 seconds on what all to write
• Start with a strong introduction (Summarising the case in 3-4 lines along with related constitutional article, law, quote etc.)
• Think of all the stakeholders and write their concerns and solutions (Be as inclusive as possible)
• In body, write in pointers and highlight important items
• Conclusion must be forward looking. You can end with a quote also
Value addition
• Quotations in each answer (Attaching quotations document)
• Usage of flow chart to explain plan of action
Now start with writing individual answers. Initially it is going to take more time than the time allocated in the exam. I wrote my first few case studies in 30 mins and then improved gradually in next 100 days of preparation.
