ASI report, 1879

The name Sambhal, is referenced in Carlleyle's 1879 Archaeological Survey of India report as Sambhaleshwar in the Satya Yuga, Mahagiri in the Treta yuga and Pingala in Dwapara Yuga.

Carlleyle recognised its historical significance in Hindu texts, underscoring its importance over time.

ASI report from 1879 clearly states that under Prithviraj Chauhan, a temple named Hari Mandir was rebuilt implying its existence before Chauhan's reign. DGP
