- to use NET as single national entrance examination for PhD admissions
- accordance with NEP, 2020
Merits:
- NET checks only the memory and retention skills of the candidates
Demerits:
- long form answer writing would be more appropriate to test the research and aptitude and writing skills of aspiring scholars
- introduction of descriptive questions has its own problems
- NET conducted in 83 different subjects
- 6.95 lakhs candidates appear on an average
- this will make the evaluation process cumbersome
- delay the declaration of results
