Easy accessibility of Geospatial data through National Geospatial Data registry and Unified Geospatial interface
The Survey of India has launched a Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) Network towards redefinition of National Geodetic Framework.
🔆 Key Highlights
📍 Overview Launched on 28th December 2022, aims to make India a global leader in geospatial technology. Focuses on open access to geospatial data, innovation, and governance improvements. Supports economic growth, disaster management, urban planning, and environmental conservation. Survey of India (SoI) and other publicly funded geospatial data will be treated as a public good, ensuring easy access and utilization for all stakeholders.
📍 Key Goals By 2025: Liberalize geospatial data access, create a unified digital interface & redefine national geodetic frameworks. Redefine the National Geodetic Framework using modern positioning technologies, with online accessibility. By 2030: High-resolution topographical surveys, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) development, and enhanced geospatial skills. Establish a Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure (GKI) underpinned by an Integrated Data and Information Framework. By 2035: National Digital Twin mapping for major cities & bathymetric data for inland waters to support Blue Economy.
📍 Budget & Key Initiatives ₹100 Cr allocated for National Geospatial Mission in Union Budget 2025-26, which aims to develop foundational geospatial infrastructure and data. PM Gati Shakti alignment for infrastructure planning and execution. National Geospatial Data Repository to centralize and integrate geospatial datasets.

Operation Dronagiri
launched on November 13, 2024 by Department of Science and Technology Objective: demonstrate the application of geospatial technologies to improve the quality of citizens life and ease of doing business designed to integrate geospatial data, analytics, and advanced mapping technologies to support multiple sectors. A key feature of Operation Dronagiri is the development of an Integrated Geospatial Data Sharing Interface (GDI)
