The Svamitva scheme of the Panchayati Raj Department was launched in April 2020

Objective

• recording property rights.
• to digitise property records in rural areas.
• facilitating monetisation of properties,
• helping the owners get bank loans,
• reducing property disputes and
• aiding in village-level planning.
• help women establish their ownership.

Status

• 92% of drone mapping has been done as of 2024
• Targets likely to be acheived by 2026.

States left out

• Sikkim, Telangana and Tamil Nadu had participated only in the pilot phase.
• Telangana and Bihar have their own version of this scheme.
• West Bengal, Bihar, Nagaland and Meghalaya have not come on board.
