The Bamboo and the Oak Tree - Passage 1

Once, in a dense forest, there stood a tall and proud oak tree. Beside it grew a thin and humble bamboo plant. The oak tree often mocked the bamboo. “Look how strong I am! You are so weak and bend with the wind,” said the oak. The bamboo replied, “I may bend, but I never break.”

One day, a violent storm hit the forest. The oak tree stood stiff and tried to resist the wind. But the strong wind uprooted the oak tree and it fell with a crash. The bamboo, on the other hand, bent low and swayed with the wind, and so, it survived the storm.

The Dandi March

In 1930, Mahatma Gandhi launched the Dandi March as a non-violent protest against the British salt law. At that time, Indians were not allowed to make or sell salt and had to buy it at high prices from the British government. Gandhi saw this as unjust.

He, along with 78 followers, walked for 24 days from Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi, a distance of over 380 kilometers. When he reached the shore, Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt from the ground. This act became a symbol of Indian resistance and inspired millions to join the freedom movement.

Photosynthesis: Nature’s Magic

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food. It takes place mainly in the leaves of the plant. The plant uses sunlight, carbon dioxide from the air, and water from the soil to make food. This food is stored in the form of glucose, and oxygen is released into the air.

The green pigment in leaves, called chlorophyll, plays an important role. It helps capture the sunlight needed for the process. Without photosynthesis, life on Earth would not exist, as it provides both food and oxygen.

Photosynthesis also keeps the air clean by using carbon dioxide. This process shows how plants are important to our survival. We should protect trees and plants because they support life on Earth.

Sample Presentation: The Statue of Liberty

Introduction

Hello everyone! Today, I am going to talk about one of the most famous landmarks in the United States: the Statue of Liberty. My presentation is divided into three parts: the history of the statue, its symbolism, and some interesting facts.

History

First, let’s talk about the history. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States in 1886. It was designed by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and the metal framework was made by Gustave Eiffel, who also designed the Eiffel Tower. The statue was shipped in pieces and assembled on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.

Symbolism

Second, what does the statue symbolize? The Statue of Liberty represents freedom and democracy. In her right hand, she holds a torch, which stands for enlightenment. In her left hand, she carries a tablet with the date July 4, 1776, which is America's Independence Day. The broken chains at her feet show that she is free from oppression.

Interesting Facts

Finally, here are some interesting facts:

  • The statue is about 93 meters tall from the ground to the tip of the torch.
  • There are 354 steps inside to reach the crown.
  • About 4 million people visit the statue every year.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Statue of Liberty is not only a symbol of freedom but also a popular tourist attraction and an important piece of history. Thank you for listening.
