After Rahul Gandhi visit in August 2023, Sonam Wangchuk suddenly woke up from deep sleep and became Environmentalist
He started talking about effect on Environment due to Road, Rail, Airport and other Infra development and objected Tourist inflow so that the area stay hidden form Indian people and it is easy for China to claim it
His march to LAC tomorrow is nothing but endorsing China claim based on false narrative

Sonam got 3 International Awards for Social Work after 2012 which were funded by Rockefeller and Ford Foundations.
Again Ford Foundation funded Ramon Magsaysay Award was given to him in 2018.
Another Frankenstein like Arundhati Roy, Medha Patkar Kejriwal, Rubbish Kumar is ready to block India's progress.
He never raised Chinese aggression in Ladakh or the poor infrastructure and other basic things in Ladakh during Congress rule in the Centre.
Never fought for UT status.
But now he is vehemently opposing infrastructure, road, work and industry etc in Ladakh… WHY ?
He is singing the tune of Rahul Gandhi regarding Ladakh now.
Congress never did anything to develop Ladakhi infrastructure during their decades of rule. But neither his Minister-Father nor Sonam raised the issue.
Before Lok Sabha 2024 Elections he went on a fast and led an agitation against the Centre.
Now he is trying to gherao Delhi like CAA / Farmers Protest.
A Ladakh with poor infrastructure and away from the public eye was ideally suited to Chinese encroachment.

Centre dropped the NSA

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced its decision to revoke the detention of the climate activist Sonam Wangchuk with immediate effect by exercising its powers under the National Security Act, 1980

Preventive detention upto 12 months

The 1980 Act provides preventive detention for a maximum of two months.

Habeas Corpus filed by his wife in 2025

The revocation came nearly six months after his wife Gitanjali Angmo filed a Habeas Corpus petition before the Supreme Court in September 2025. The petition was listed before the court nearly 24 times over the past five months, with many hearings lately ending in adjournments at the Centre's behest.

A habeas corpus petition requires authorities to produce a detained person before the court and justify the legality of the detention.

Protest in 24 September 2025

Sonam Wangchuk was detained following a protest in Leh in September 2025 over demands of statehood as well as the 6th scheduled status for the Union Territory of Ladakh. The statehood protests in Leh turned violent on 24 September 2025 when clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in which four protesters were killed when the police opened fire.

Centre referred the protests to Arab spring

The Centre referenced the Leh protests as an uprising similar to the Arab Spring, accusing Wangchuk of instigating violence, threatening national security in a sensitive border region, and trying to incite Nepal-Bangladesh style unrest. It also alleged that he was a chief provocateur who used Gandhi-inspired rhetoric to encourage Gen Z towards violent protest, self-immolation, and non-cooperation.

Arrested in 26 September 2025

Two days after the violence on 26th September 2025, Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the NSA and lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan.

Medical ailments since January 2026

In January 2026, Wangchuk in Jodhpur Central Jail experienced deteriorating health, specifically severe stomach-related ailments, leading to multiple examinations by the gastroenterologist at AIMS Jodhpur. Print
