Crisis of Masculinity

More than one in four father with children 18 or younger now live apart from their children.

In 2020, 56% men under 30 voted for Joe Biden. In 2024 56% of that cohort voted for Trump, a nearly 15 points swing to the right.

Look at the demand not the supply.

The failure of the mainstream institutions to acknowledge and tackle real problems facing any boys and men has created a vacuum in our politics and in our culture.

In his book, Reeves cited a study by Australian researchers who examined the words that men who have attempted suicide used most often to describe themselves. "Useless" was at the top of the list.

As men lost the ability to become breadwinners en mass, the story goes, the breadwinner role lost its relevance and then men lost themselves.

The USA doesn't have a European style welfare state. Its because the long standing premise of the American welfare state is the uncompensated labor of women, who still do two more hours of household work per day than men.

HEAL jobs do not pay well precisely because they have been considered women's work.

Boy culture - norms of masculinity that discourage boys at an early age from developing the social and emotional skills that could help them navigate a society built with women's full participation in mind.

Reeves doesn't believe that masculinity is toxic, but he does believe its fragile.

Because boys' brain, on an average are slower to develop during adolescence, he wants to red-shirt the boys or hold them all back for a year before they start kindergarten.

In real time, one could see there was a demand for the kind of permission space that Reeves had made it his life's work to create.

About Reeves; Born on July 4, 1969 in the Peterborough, 70 miles north of London.

His mother was a part time nurse and father was a manager.

He was sent to ballroom dancing classes on saturdays.

He joined the PM Tony Blair's New Labour government in 1997 and became a true believer in the Third Way ideology.

He worked for a year in the Blair administration and left to get a Ph.D in philosophy.

He wrote a biography in 2007 of the 19th century British philosopher John Stuart Mill, a figure of liberalism.

A early suporter of women's emancipation, Mill is Reeves'ss intellectual lodestar.

In 2010, he was named director of strategy under Dy. PM Nick Clegg.

He ended his career in British politics and moved to the United States of America|[[United States of America]].

In 2022 alone, 6,450 dowry-related deaths were reported in India, along with 31,516 cases of rape. About 96.6 per cent of these crimes were committed by someone known to the victim: family members, friends, or neighbours. That’s an average of 86 rapes per day in this country.
