This is set to repeal the 100 year old pre independence legislation, The Indian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, 1925

This provides for the responsibilities, liabilities, rights and immunities attached to carriers with respect to the carriage of goods by sea and for matters connected therewith or related thereto.
