Attari Border, not wagah border
Very few of us know that "Wagah_Border" is the name of the Pakistan side. The Indian side of the border is called "Attari_Border".
Attari Border is named after the great Sardar Shyam Singh Attari. He was the commander of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and defeated the Gayawars in battle many times..!
When Ranjit Singh became the Maharaja of Punjab, he took the services of Attariwala into his possession. Ranjit Singh made him the 'Jadedar' of 5,000 horsemen. He actively participated in many battles, especially the Battle of Multan, the Kashmir War, the Frontier Province War, etc.
Shyam Singh Attariwala is famous for his last stand in the Battle of Sophron. He joined the Sikh army in 1817, and participated in the Battle of Attock, the Battle of Multan, the Battle of Peshawar and the 1819 invasion of Kashmir during the Afghan–Sikh Wars.
Shyam Singh Attariwala was a prominent courtier at the Lahore Durbar during the reigns of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Duleep Singh. He was part of the delegation led by Crown Prince Kharak Singh sent by Maharaja Ranjit Singh to congratulate Lord William Bending at the Roper Meeting on 25 October 1831.
He was the Jagirdar of Basrur, now Sialkot, Pakistan.
When the young Duleep Singh became Maharaja, Sardar Shyam Singh served on the council.
Shyam Singh's daughter Nanaki Kaur Attariwala, later Kunwarani Nanaki Kaur, married Prince Nav Nihal Singh and became the Maharani of the Sikh Empire upon his accession to the throne.
During the Battle of Sopron, unlike the traitors Lal Singh and Tej Singh, Sardar Sham Singh refused to leave the battlefield and died a patriot.
Calling the "Attari Border" as Wagah Border is an insult to the pride of Sardar Shyam Singh Attari, who lived and died for the protection of our motherland, the holy land of Bharat.
