India now empanelled 18,693 gpus
- "I am very happy to say, that against 10,000- gpus, we have actually empanelled 18,693 gpus"
- 12,896 are (Nvidia) H100s, 1,480 are (Nvidia) H200s – the most powerful GPUs. Overall net high end GPUs we have 15,000 GPUs in the entire process.
- [c] DeepSeek was trained on 2,000 GPUs
- Ashwini Vaishnaw: This will be used for creating AI models, distillation processes, new algorithms
- Roughly, 10,000 GPUs (out of the 18,693) are available today.
- "The second big mission of the IndiaAI mission was to develop an AI model. Our teams have been working with startups, academia"
- "We have now created the framework which will be launched today. We are calling for proposals to develop our own foundational models, where the Indian context, the Indian languages, the culture of our country where the biases can be removed. Where the datasets, for our country, for our citizens – that process will start today"
- "We believe that there are at least 6 major developers who can develop AI models in the 6-8 months on the outer limit, and 4-6 months on a more optimistic estimate"
India's Artificial Sun - The SST-1 (Steady state Superconducting Tokamak-1)

- Gears Up For 6,000-Meter Ocean Exploration
- Developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences
- The vessel is part of the Samudrayaan project under the Deep Ocean Mission, launched in 2021.
- Designed to carry 3 scientists in a 2.1 meter diameter personnel sphere
- The vessel maintains an internal pressure of 1 atmosphere, even while withstanding the immense external pressure of 720 bars, which is 1.2 times more than the expected pressure at 6,000 meters.
- To ensure safety, the submersible is equipped with a DNV-certified Human Support and Safety System (HSSS) that regulates oxygen levels at 20 per cent, keeps CO2 levels below 1,000 ppmv, and controls humidity for crew comfort
- The vessel is designed for 12-hour missions but has an emergency endurance of up to 96 hours, ensuring survival in critical situations.
- Matsya-6000 is equipped with an Underwater Acoustic Telephone that has been operated and tested for operations up to 10,000 meters depth of human operation vehicles.

India's 1st thinking satellite
Hyderabad-based startup, TakeMe2Space, is ready to launch India’s first thinking ‘data compute’ satellite on ISRO’s SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle) by September.
$2 per minute vs $30 per sq.km
Most companies charge clients based on the area covered by satellites, with rates ranging from $15 to $30 per square kilometre. TakeMe2Space plans to upend this model by charging based on time—as little as $2 per minute. The startup already has a waitlist of 40 clients for its first satellite.
Reducing the cost of transmitting data back to earth for analysis
If successful, companies will no longer need to buy petabytes (equal to 1 million GB) of images at high costs and do the processing themselves on land. By inferring the data in space, TakeMe2Space plans to reduce the data size to megabytes. The challenge is reducing the cost of transmitting all that data back to Earth.
1.5% energy consumed by data centres, IEA
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), data centres globally are responsible for 1.5 per cent of the world’s total energy consumption. In five years, this figure will be at 3 per cent, and in the US, data centres already account for over 4 per cent of annual energy consumption.
Rise of AI increased the need for data centres
The rise of AI has increased the deployment and need for data centres massively, and a McKinsey report estimates that demand for data centres will rise by around 20 per cent a year until 2030.
69% of data centres in India in Hyderabad
According to a March 2025 Anarock Capital report, out of the 440 acres of land acquired to develop data centres across the country, 69 per cent is in Hyderabad alone.
