Shops to display names in Tamil

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced on Tuesday that the government would issue circulars mandating all shops and establishments to display their names in Tamil.

The Chief Minister further declared that all invitations for government department functions would now include a Tamil version.

This directive comes amid ongoing language disputes in South India, particularly concerning the National Education Policy’s three-language formula, which has been perceived by some states as an attempt to impose Hindi. India Today
